Purpose of this Blog

Friday 30 October 2009

This blog was designed as an aid and encouragement to those who wish to help persecuted Christians in China. Many are right now in prison, where conditions are inhuman and where they are often beaten and tortured, sometimes to death.

To help them, and the Church in China, I ask three things of you:

Commitment
I'd like to ask you to commit to giving four minutes a day for four weeks to this project. You choose when to begin. You will devote about two hours of your life to your brothers and sisters in chains. A small investment with huge dividends.

Action
Send one letter each week for four consecutive weeks to the Chinese President (his address is in the left-hand sidebar). You can make four copies of the same letter, or draft four different letters. He may never read your letters. They might be tossed out, unopened. But the next step not even the Chinese government can control.

Prayer
Each day during the four weeks, take four minutes of your precious life and pray for the Chinese President and his family, for China and the Chinese Church, and for the Christians languishing in Chinese prisons.

That's it. It takes four minutes a day for four weeks. With the time it takes to print out four letters and address the envelopes, you'll be investing a grand total of about two hours of your life for the brothers and sisters in China. Get off this blog. Get off Facebook. Stop emailing and texting. Put the iPod down. Start praying. Then print out four letters. You do have the time, it's just a matter of prioritizing the Lord's work.

A tiny amount of your time to print out and mail off four letters and to pray can make a huge difference in the state of the Church in China and in the lives of Christians, both imprisoned and "free." Please don't underestimate prayer and the things you do for the brethren.

Please sign up as a follower of this blog to show your solidarity with others who have committed to dedicating two hours of their lives to Christ in China. [You'll find the FOLLOW button if you scroll down and look on the left-hand column, under the book suggestion.]

Please join me in His service.

To generalize this letter to request the release of all Christians imprisoned for their faith, use this one or draft one similar to this:

Dear Mr. President,

We are thankful that the Chinese Constitution allows freedom of religion. However, we have learned that many Christians are imprisoned throughout China for practicing their religion. We are very concerned for their welfare. Stories of many cases have been circulated around the world. We ask that all charges be dropped and that all Christians be released immediately, with no repercussions to them or their families. We are praying for you as an authority and spokesperson of the Chinese government.

Kindest regards from [name your country],
